About Us and Our Dogs
Please feel free to view this video, it helps summarize a bit about us and our dogs -
Nestled in the orchards of south central Pennsylvania, we are a small scale breeder of old fashioned, straight-backed German Shepherd Dogs. Most of our dogs are long coats, however we do occasionally have short coat German Shepherd puppies available. We are not a facility, our dogs our our pets, most live strictly inside or are rotated because not all intact females will get along with each other. Because of this, we have had an addition built off the kitchen specifically for the dogs that allows for easier rotation. There are three 40 x 60 foot play areas, as well as access to the rest of yard when we are in it. All of our dogs are excellent with our four young children ages 6 and under.
Our puppies are raised indoors as well, being whelped in a separate area off the kitchen and become accustomed to household sounds from the moment of birth. They are socialized with our young children, our other dogs, as well as our house cat Angel who will sometimes sneak into the box to view the puppies. Our puppies are not always available, as of now we have 2-3 litters per year, and do sometimes have a waiting list before a litter is bred.
Please note, once puppies are born, we will not allow anyone on our property (even to just "view the parents") until they have then reached 6 weeks of age and have had their first set of vaccinations.
However, we do welcome visitors at the 6 week mark, and encourage people to visit before the puppies are born so that they can meet the parents as well as see the environment that the puppies are raised in. We are a busy family with young children and breed as a hobby, not an enterprise. Because of this, we will accept visitors by appointment only, usually after 6 PM on weekdays or most weekends. If you want to schedule an appointment in advance, that is more than welcome, however please call us again a few days beforehand to confirm that you are coming and at that point in time we will give you our address.
All of our breeding dogs are dual registered with both the American Kennel Club on full registration as well as the United Kennel Club. They are purebred German Shepherd Dogs. We x-ray our dogs before breeding, either with preliminary x-rays approved by our veterinarian or with a passing grade from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and/or the University of Pennsylvania's Hip Improvement Program (PennHIP) certification of being free from degenerative joint disease (DJD). We are now also certifying elbows through the OFA, TLI testing for exocrine pancreatic insuffiency, our breeding males have been certified through the OFA to be clear non-carriers of degenerative myelopathy (meaning regardless of the females they are bred to, the pups will NOT have this disease), and AKC DNA profiling. Individual health tests for each dog are posted on their webpage along with size and weight stats.
