Why We Have a Spay/Neuter Contract

Pioneer German Shepherds - Long Coat German Shepherds - Plush Coat German Shepherds - Pioneer German Shepherds offers large boned german shepherd puppies, available occasionally to select companion homes.

For our first two litters, we sold our dogs locally to people mostly in the South Central Pennsylvania area and decided to have the early spay/neuter procedure performed on them at 8 weeks before going home. We were extremely concerned that one of our puppies would have wound up in a Lancaster puppy mill. However, because of the internet and with SO MANY people contacting us from as far away as the West Coast who are willing to meet our requirements in order to potentially purchase a puppy, we are a now little less worried that our puppies may somehow end up in a puppy mill. We absolutely require visitation from the individual(s) to meet us and our dogs, and through a careful screening process along with individuals actually having to pick up their pups (no shipping), are now selling our puppies without breeding rights on a spay/neuter contract with registration paperwork given once the puppy is altered as per our agreement.

We do NOT want to help contribute to pet overpopulation.
One female dog and one male dog and their offspring can produce 4,372 puppies in 7 years. While we admit that we are not breeding German Shepherd Dogs that would necessarily fit in the AKC standard as far as size or coat type is concerned, we agree that not EVERY dog is worthy to be bred. We have our own qualifications as to what a "breed worthy" animal is as far as OUR type is concerned, and though all our puppies are wonderful companions, we want only those that embody ALL aspects we are looking for to reproduce. By requiring that all pet puppies be spayed/neutered, we can ensure that only the best of our breed stock will go on to contribute to the gene pool and that all the other wonderful babies produced will NOT be part of the pet overpopulation problem that exists in this country today.
